I.C.E Your Attacker

I.C.E is an acronym I use when I am teaching and talking about dealing with situations or confrontations in a broad sense. I.C.E is a good acronym to teach newer students because of it's simplicity to remember. It is also a good way to introduce the concept of situational awareness and confrontation readiness and realization. So lets break down I.C.E.

  • Identify- Identify a threat, identify a possible threat, identify where an attack is coming from and who is attacking you. Identify if your attacker or attackers has a weapon. Remember the best defense is the one that you don't have to use, because you were aware and avoided the situation all together.
  • Counter- Counter your attacker or attackers with an attack of your own. Within this word counter, are all defenses and attacks (strikes) that are needed to stop the attack on you or the person your are defending.
  • Escape- Once you have countered the attack, and have created room or a path for escape USE IT!!! Escape the threat, and escape the area, get to safety.
That's it! It's that simple, easy and straight forward the way we like it here at M.U.C.T Understand that the first two I and C may have many layers or multiple elements i.e. you may have to identify multiple threats and counter multiple attacks or attackers. Remember "You Have to Fight Dirty to Stay Clean"

Real Violence Needs Real Solutions
